My Life Under God’s Sovereignty: Esther Conclusion
We have reached the end of our study of the book of Esther and it’s time for us to see our life under God’s sovereignty. Throughout these lessons, we paused to meditate on God’s faithfulness and His work, even when His name is not mentioned.
Now that you have the complete picture of the book, I encourage you to take another moment to reflect with a complete vision.
In prayer, present yourself before God with humility. Allow His Spirit to guide you as you answer the following questions, give thanks for what you’ve learned, confess what is necessary, and take concrete steps toward a life more surrendered to His will.
Questions to Meditate On
- In seasons when God seems to be silent or distant, do you recognize that He continues as from the beginning governing over everything?
- Does the fact that God fulfills His will because of who He is fill you with peace? Or does it make you uncomfortable to take attention away from yourself?
- Are you expressing your emotions in a healthy way; do you repress them or give them free rein?
- How do you react to tragedies or difficult times?
- How does your reaction to those difficult times change when you rest in God’s sovereignty?
- Are you constantly exercising your spiritual disciplines? Prayer? Fasting?
- Seeing Mordecai and Esther’s confidence in God’s will, can you say that your confidence is solid or do you need to grow in this area?
- What advice do you like to hear? That which goes according to your plans and emotions; or that which is directed by God’s Word?
- Are your decisions hasty or do you take time to pray, think and then act?
- Does the fact that your future is in the hands of the Sovereign God fill you with joy?
- Are you being intentional about leaving a memory of God’s work in your life?
- Can you celebrate Christ’s resurrection and the victory in which we now participate each day?
Looking to Christ
Throughout Esther we saw themes that transcend the Old Testament: God’s providential care, courageous intercession, and unexpected redemption. All of this points to the gospel.
Just as Esther presented herself before the king to advocate for her people, Christ presented Himself before the Father to intercede for us. Esther risked her life, but Jesus gave it up voluntarily to secure eternal salvation for us. His sacrifice has given us a safe place in God’s presence.
Under God’s Sovereignty
This study also reminds us that we are not where we are by accident. God has placed us in our families, jobs, churches and communities for a purpose. Perhaps you don’t see the impact of your obedience now, but every act of faith is part of a bigger picture that only God sees complete. You were called “for such a time as this.”
Regardless of how surrendered or not we are to God’s will, our life is under His sovereignty. Nothing escapes Him. Nothing gets out of His control. Even in silence, He acts. Even in exile, He redeems. Even in the everyday, He reigns.
It is my prayer that we can continue growing in our faith so that the truth that God’s sovereignty is always in action fills us with peace, hope and joy, both in difficult seasons and in the most common days, until we reach the great banquet, the Wedding of the Lamb.
Prayer
Sovereign Lord, thank You for accompanying me through this study. Thank You for showing me that You are present even when I cannot see clearly. Help me to trust in Your will and to live with purpose in every season, knowing that my life is under Your sovereignty.
May Your peace fill me, may Your hope sustain me and may Your joy propel me to follow You with faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
